When Cathy Gravelle wanted real world knowledge in real world time, she turned to University of Waterloo’s Professional Development Department and was quite pleased with the results.

Kevin Mendoza (uWaterloo B.A.Sc. - Applied Science, '99) is just wrapping-up the last course to complete the Project Management Certificate. He says he chose uWaterloo not only because he is an alumnus, but also because of the significant discount offered to alumni - which was an incentive to take more courses.
We recently had the opportunity to sit-down with Dayna Giorgio, Donor Relations and Communications Officer, KidsAbility Foundation and talk to her about her experiences with the uWaterloo Professional Development (PD) course offerings.
"Everything you do requires strong leadership skills." That's the perspective of Leadership Certificate recipient Arshia Azizeddin when asked why he was pursuing the courses for the designation.
Ask Judy Carrick (BMath '73, Cert. PM) why she sought retraining from uWaterloo and she'll straighforwardly tell you "it's because of the format, practical, in-class approach, and condensed timeframe in which a certificate can be completed."

After more than 27 years in the telecommunications and IT world, I became another statistic during the downturn in the economy. I had extensive experience in the full software lifecycle, from R&D, requirements development, operational support and finally the development of an enterprise business architecture. After searching for a new position for several months from Toronto to Niagara Falls to Waterloo, I realized that my software skills needed bolstering with project management skills.
In January, I decided to rebrand myself as a Project Manager. I enrolled in the Project Management Certification course at the University of Waterloo. Over several months, I took several courses that led to the certification and I am fully prepared to write my PMP® certification exam this year. (Read more...)
